Gonchar’s Scoring Streak Up To Eight Games

Artem Gonchar (Logan Taylor)

There were seven New York Rangers prospects in action on Friday night with little to show for it. Two prospects recorded a combined three points but the rest had little to show.

Artem Gonchar had a two assist night as his Sudbury Wolves defeated the North Bay Battalion 6-2. Gonchar extended his scoring streak to eight games (3-8-11) with a primary and secondary assist.

The Rangers 2025 third round pick got his first assist when he was credited with a primary assist on the Wolves second goal. Thw Twitter clip is not available but this assist is worth watching.

The play begins at the 1:16 mark of the clip. How Gonchar got this pass through is unknown but he did.

The assist put his Wolves up 2-0 at 16:40 of the first period. The second Gonchar assist was a secondary one on the Wolves fourth goal of the game.

After starting his OHL career scoreless in six games and being scratched for two more, Gonchar is now 9-17-26 on the season. That makes him second among the Rangers prospects.

Nathan Aspinall (Flint Firebirds)

Nathan Aspinall had a goal as his Flint Firebirds defeated the London Knights 5-0. It is shocking that a player his size can skate and have as soft of hands as he does.

Aspinall took the puck to the London net and put a backhand shot through the five-hole. It was his 23rd goal of the season and his OHL leading 52nd point.

The Rangers 2024 fifth round pick besides leading the OHL in points is second in goals (23rd), and fifth in assists (29). He has twice the number of points as the Rangers second leading prospect scorer.

Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts needed the shootout before edging the Kitchener Rangers 3-2. Barrie won their third straight and are 8-2 in their last ten games.

Raoul Boilard was scoreless as his Shawinigan Cataractes defeated the Sherbrooke Phœnix. Boilard was 8-8 on his faceoffs which is rare for him.

Ty Henricks had a secondary assist as his seventh-ranked Western Michigan Broncos shut out Notre Dame 4-0 in non-conference play. Henricks earned his assist on the Broncos second goal of the game.

He improves to a career best 7-8-15 on the season.

E. J. Emery was scoreless as Team USA was eliminated by Finland in overtime 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the World Under-20. Emery barely played as he was the seventh defenseman in this game.

The Rangers 2024 first round selection played just five shifts for all of 4:01. Emery did not record any points during the tournament.

Exhibition

Brody Lamb and his Minnesota Golden Gophers played to a 3-3 overtime tie in an non-counting exhibition game with Bemidji State. The two Minnesota schools decided to play an exhibition game for the third time in four years.
