Silence Of This Lamb

Ok tonight’s title was stolen from the Big Ten hockey folks but it so fits as senior captain Brody Lamb led his Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 6-3 Big Ten win over Ohio State on Thursday evening thanks to a three point performance. Lamb recorded a 1-2-3 evening for his sixth multi-point gamne of the season as he extended his scoring streak to three games (2-5-7).

Point number one was a secondary assist on Minnesota’s first goal of the game, a power play goal at 3:50 of the second period which tied the game at 1-1. Point two was a primary assist on Minnesota’s second goal of the night which put them in front 2-1 at 9:03 of the period.

In the third period after Ohio State had rallied to tie the game up at 3-3, Lamb put his team in front for good with his ninth goal of the season, an even-strength goal at 6:40 of the period. It was Lamb creating his own offense, attacking off the rush and then burying his own rebound on what proved to be the game winning goal for Minnesota.

By the numbers, Lamb going 1-2-3 on three shots also did it on the defensive side as well credited with four blocked shots. That gives Lamb five goals in his last eight games as well as seven assists giving him 12 points in his last eight games.

On the season, Lamb is now up to 9-10-19 in 18 games this season as Minnesota’s leading scorer is averaging 18:42 TOI. Same two teams Friday evening with this game televised on the Big Ten Network starting at 6:00 PM Eastern time.

That game will be followed by a Rangers prospect matchup as Malcom Spence will lead his top-ranked Michigan Wolverines against Sean Barnhill’s third ranked Michigan State Spartans.

Nathan Aspinall extended his scoring streak to nine games (9-10-19) but it was not enough to prevent his Flint Firebirds from dropping a 3-2 decision to the Peterborough Petes in OHL play. Aspinall who was named OHL player of the month for November earlier this week, earned a secondary assist on Flint’s second goal of the game coming at 12:21 of the third period as the Firebirds tried to rally from down two goals.

The leading scorer for both Flint and the Rangers prospects, Aspinall is up to 17-22-39 in 25 games this season as he is on a 1.56 points per game pace that if he maintains it will create new goal and point totals. His next goal will tie his career best of 18 and he has not reached the holiday break.

Raoul Boilard had a secondary assist but his Shawinigan Cataractes lost to the Drummondville Voltigeurs in QMJHL action 4-1. This game was played outdoors as part of the 55 Cup which is being played at the Hippodrome de Trois-Rivières in Quebec.

The 55 Cup is a neutral site four team tournament that the QMJHL is putting on this season. Boilard earned a secondary assist for his 14th assist and 19th overall point. But Boilard has gone 12 games without a goal dating back to October 25th.

Goal scoring seems to be his only wart on his game as he was 12-3 on his faceoffs as he is now up to a 67.2% win rate overall this season. The Cataractes will face the loser of the game tomorrow’s game between the Victoriaville Tigres and the Sherbrooke Phœnix on Saturday.
